In 1977 a museum named after Shokan Ualikhanov was founded by the decision of the Council of Kokchetav Pedagogical Institute, it was designed to preserve the memory of the great Kazakh scholar. For many years the staff of the university conducted an active work on collecting materials about Shokan Ualikhanov, copies of his manuscripts and works were purchased. In the past, the museum consisted of eight expositions, telling about the life and work of the first Kazakh scientist.
In 2003 Museum of Shokan Ualikhanov was transformed into the museum of Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University. The museum began to reflect the history of the University's formation, as well as to demonstrate the creative achievements of the students of the arts department: national costumes, art canvases, tapestries, works made of wood and metal, and much more.
Since 2006, the museum is managed by Nurbagambetova Mahabbat Saparovna.
In 2011 on the 50th anniversary of Sh. Ualikhanov KSU, the museum was renovated and the exposition halls were restored. Guided by the new concept of the museum, the author of which was the invited consultant and museum expert-Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maria Kenzheakhmet, the thematic exposition plan was modernized by her. The museum has acquired a modern information-rich appearance.
Today the museum consists of 13 expositions. One of the expositions tells about the formation of the first higher educational institution in the region- Sh. Ualikhanov KSU. Seven expositions represent the history of the faculties.
The traditional exposition still remains, which tells us about the life, scientific and creative activities of Shokan Ualikhanov. One of the main expositions of the museum of Sh.
